Oregon will be sending a Democrat to President Biden from our new 5th Congressional District. It will likely not be the one he endorsed; however, she will be a faithful supporter of his agenda and a sterling addition to the Oregon legislative team.
Oregon’s geography varies from temperate rainforests to high prairies; however, the defining geographic and political feature is the continental backbone of the Cascades which runs the length of our state. This barrier stops and empties the Pacific clouds of rain before sending the warm dry air down the eastern slope to the eastern deserts. The land is very different on either side and so are the people.

I will not belabor the rank-and-file Democrat’s dissatisfaction with US Representative Kurt Schrader (h/t to Blue Tuesday); however, recent signs such as major labor unions dumping him right before the election and endorsing Jamie McLeod-Skinner speaks volumes.Four out of five district county parties making up the 5th district have endorsed his primary opponent Jamie McLeod Skinner. Local Democrat have demanded that the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee stop campaigning for Representative Kurt Schaffer.
The chairs of the Clackamas, Deschutes and Marion County Democratic parties wrote to the national campaign committee, asking it to immediately stop campaigning for Schrader.
“We are working to elect a Congressmember who represents Oregon’s Democratic values,” they wrote. “Oregonians get to decide who will represent us.”
Primarying US Repesentative Schaffer was not an idea Oregonians just pulled out of our hats yesterday, and it was not done without due process according to each county’s rules.
Trust Oregon voters. We are sending a good Democrat from our latest congressional district to President Joe Biden.
